When a housing development intrudes on their woodland habitat and an opossum is kidnapped by an evil exterminator, three wise-cracking rodents and one very neurotic reptile invade the burbs in a quest to rescue their friend. Battle the exterminator and his army of mind-controlled mammals, and save the forest from the world's peskiest critter man. In over 30 mission-filled levels, gamers can switch between two characters on the fly, or select multiplayer mode to join forces with a friend. Gamers interact with all characters from the film, as well as all-new characters that live only in the game.
The fast-paced adventure takes place in more than 10 new locations not featured in the film including the exterminator's lab, the sewers, and the wild Western theme park. Based on the highly-anticipated feature film from DreamWorks Animation, Over the Hedge is a wildly adventurous game that takes players on an interactive adventure beyond the story seen in the film. Assuming the roles of RJ the raccoon, Verne the turtle, Hammy the squirrel and Stella the skunk, players turn a suburban neighborhood loaded with dangerous obstacles and traps into their own personal playground.
Numerous puzzles and mini-games keep fans busy as they switch between two of the four main characters or engage in two player co-op with friends. Afterwards, the game jumps forward in time to one year later, when raiding people's houses for food and other things has become routine for the Hedgies. One day, however, they come home to find all their food has been stolen and their stuff broken. As it turns out, Dwayne the Verminator, known to the animals as "The Sniffer", has returned with an army of brainwashed animals, all of which are controlled using mind control caps that he has invented.
One of the few unique things about Over the Hedge is the fact that, even when you're playing by yourself, there's always an artificial intelligence-controlled companion animal to back you up, and you can switch between the two of them on the fly. It ends up being kind of a so-what feature, since there's little appreciable performance difference between any of the characters, and you rarely even find obstacles that require cooperation to overcome. We ended up playing as Verne the turtle most of the time, just because we liked his double-jump animation better. Dreamworks game referencesAfter completing the Projector Heist level, go by the tree stump in the woods. The two possums will be watching Shrek Super Slam on the film projector. The projector and laptop show different Dreamworks video game screens.
The laptop always shows Shrek Super Slam; however, the projector is different. From when you first get the projector until about half way through, Shrek Super Slam is on the screen. From about halfway through the game until just before you play the final level, it plays Shark Tale. However, even though they show the video games the animals sitting next to the projector will talk as if they were watching the actual movie. The Only Game That Lets Players Relive Movie Moments And Beyond - In over 30 mission-filled levels, gamers can switch between two characters on the fly, or select multiplayer mode to join forces with a friend. From the 2006 DreamWorks Animation film Over The Hedge comes this new action/adventure from Activision.
Gamers assume the role of characters including RJ the raccoon, Verne the turtle, Hammy the squirrel and Stella the skunk, and explore a suburban neighborhood filled with traps and other various obstacles. In addition, the title boasts dozens of puzzles and mini-games and a two-player cooperative mode. Two different kinds of attack can be employed, melee and ranged. Weapons include golf clubs, sticks, baseball bats, plungers and other everyday items. Ranged attacks consist of throwing boomerangs, frisbees and shooting golf balls, these attacks can be charged up.
There are also energy attacks, projectile weapons and objects to pick up and throw at enemies. The game has several pickup weapons, such as weapons that only opponents have (i.e., a trowel). There are also guns that can be picked up, such as a toy ball launcher, a freeze ray, a bubble shooter, or a lava blaster. Missions are generally short and feature simple objectives. It's usually a matter of getting from point A to point B while hitting a bunch of enemies with a golf club along the way. You'll encounter motion sensor traps, flying barbeque grills, bears, rabbits and a ton of other enemies.
Fights aren't exactly intricate chess matches, they're just a matter of hitting X until they're dead. Along with the melee weapons you'll also be able to shoot projectiles and do special area-damage attacks. If you're sitting on your partner's shoulders, you can also perform a useful spin attack by simultaneously pressing Y. As a major motion picture, Over the Hedge tells the story of a group of woodland creatures coping with the arrival of Suburbia, presumably with hilarious and perhaps occasionally thought-provoking results. The game hints at some of the conflict from the film, specifically with an overzealous exterminator and a dark-hearted bear named Vincent.
We have to assume that the film also paints the suburbs as more aggressively antagonistic, because mostly what we got from the game is that woodland animals are a bunch of jerks that sneak into your house, maliciously bust everything up, and then steal your TV. By unlocking and completing puzzles and mini-games such as "Golf Cart Derby," "RC Car Racing," and "Suburban Mini Golf," players earn energy-filled snacks or powered-up weapons, sure to have the virtual residents saying, "there goes the neighborhood." The game allows a second player to press a button on the second controller and join the game at any time, as well as pause the game and drop out.
There are also plenty of obstacles and hazards to overcome, as well as objectives to complete and extras to collect. The game also has an array of hats, which when collected make a humorous sound and act as armor. These include a chef hat, a crown, a witch hat and a hockey helmet amongst others. In the video game, which takes place a year after the movie, RJ, Hammy, Verne, and the gang feel that they need to have more things for the log . This leads them on a wild romp through six different areas to snatch different things such as a popcorn machine and a TV for themselves.
In Over the Hedge when a housing development intrudes on their woodland habitat and an opossum is kidnapped by an evil exterminator, three wise-cracking rodents and one very neurotic reptile invade the burbs in a quest to rescue their friend. It's just easy to control, filled with personality and most importantly of all, great for kids. Controlling the different woodland animals is easy enough for young children to pick up and play, and even easy enough for gaming-ignorant parents as well.
Co-op mode may not feature a whole lot of activities that require teamwork, but it would still make for a good parent-child gaming experience. When a housing development intrudes on their woodland habitat and an opossum is kidnapped by an evil exterminator, three wise-cracking rodents and one very neurotic reptile invade the 'burbs in a quest to rescue their friend. Battle the exterminator and his army of mind-controlled mammals, and save the forest from the world's peskiest critterman. Over The Hedge is a very solid title, especially considering the slew of movie tie-ins it competes with - which all come off as looking very lackluster and limited when compared to this. It's also perfect if you're simply looking for any kids game. There are better options out there for the youngsters, such as Kao The Kangaroo, but the variety of moves, use of character likeness from the film, mini-games and overall presentation will surely please any little one or fan of the flick.
If you're part of the older audience just looking for a good platform game then Over The Hedge is far from the best, but then again it isn't trying to be the absolute be-all-end-all platform action game. It sets out to create an entertaining game that compliments the film whilst keeping the attention of youngsters and in that respect it does phenomenally. While playing, you can use weapons such as golf clubs, plungers, baseball bats, etc. to fight enemies.
You can also throw long range weapons, such as frisbees or boomerangs. There are various toy guns thrown about the game as well, like a ball launcher. The developers made the environments destructible which adds even more fun to this title. Where this game truly shines however is when you're playing with a friend, then it's a total blast to play. Unfortunately the game is marred by a camera that is troublesome at times and sometimes it can get repetitive.
But as a whole, this game is a great buy for kids and even for hardened gamers. When a housing development intrudes on their woodland habitat and an opossum is kidnapped by an evil exterminator, three wise-cracking rodents and one very neurotic reptile invade the 'burbs in a quest to rescue their friend. Battle the exterminator and his army of mind-controlled mammals, and save the forest from the world's peskiest critter-man.

Two different kinds of attacks can be employed, melee and ranged. Your arsenal includes golf clubs, sticks, baseball bats, plungers and other various items to use as improvised weapons.
Ranged attacks consist of throwing boomerangs, frisbees and shooting golf balls, and these attacks can be charged up. Over the Hedge features 3D platform gameplay as well as mini games. Staff and freelance reviews are typically written based on time spent with a retail review copy or review key for the game that is provided by its publisher. For the small cluster of game creators that regard the form as art, there is a vastly larger group that sees it as a line item on a spreadsheet--pure commodity. And, for the rare, thoughtfully executed video game movie tie-in that actually enhances the overall property , there are a dozen games like Over the Hedge. You'll go numb from repetition before you finish Over the Hedge, but you won't be able to shake the feeling that this game exists as a contractual obligation between Activision and DreamWorks.
It's a competent game to a degree, but it's also rather cold and mechanical. Over the Hedge is a 2006 video game based on the film of the same name, and a sequel to the same film. It was published by Activision, and was released on May 9, 2006. Edge of Reality developed the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox versions, Beenox developed the PC version, and Vicarious Visions developed handheld versions for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. Ian Stepp remembers visiting his aunt's house as a kid, where he'd play classic games like Duck Hunt and iterations of the Mario Brothers saga on the family's trusty old Nintendo Entertainment System. Now pushing 30, Stepp is still a fan of the now-classic video games that in recent years have spawned a thriving culture and industry capitalizing on the nostalgia of grownups who coveted Nintendo game systems as kids in the 1980s and 90s. In the last week, I've been playing an influx of movie-based games.
I've reviewed two X-Men games, the Da Vinci Code game, and one based on the animated Over the Hedge movie. Both of the former games I mentioned had every right to be entertaining games. They were based on licenses that should have translated well to a videogame experience. As it turns out, Dwayne has returned to the suburbs, bringing with him an army of brainwashed animals controlled by mind-control caps and even more traps placed throughout the entire neighborhood. So in addition to dodging the Verminator's traps, the animals must now fend off the brainwashed animals using their weapons. Over the Hedge is a 2006 video game, based on the film of the same name.
Merely 'doing the job' might offend the proud sensibilities of the gaming purist, but Over The Hedge is quite obviously a decent attempt to make the most of the license, and isn't the bloodless exercise that we feared it would be. Unlike most video games based on movies, this one starts at the climax of the film, with RJ having his change of heart and the animals defeating Gladys, Vincent, and Dwayne, leaving the forest animals free to do as they please. Includes Sony PS2 original game disc and may come with the original instruction manual and cover art when available. All PlayStation 2 games will play on any PS2 and backward compatible PS3 systems.
All DK's games are in good used condition, cleaned, tested, guaranteed to work, and backed by our 120 day warranty. Over the Hedge is a video game based upon the 2006 film of the same name. These sorts of challenges might sound kind of rad on paper, but the mostly one-button combat and the high-volume/low-variety ratio of enemies pretty much puts the kibosh on much of the game's fun. These moments are few, though, and never present a real challenge. Several locations from the movie appear to give a greater playing ground than the suburbs, the home base being the woods where all the loot is stored. Players can switch around between the four characters to give the storyline some slight twist, as each character says something different when a situation arises, to slightly alter the story.
Some stages will mix up the formula a bit by adding different gameplay elements. A couple areas will feature the protagonists being pursued by something and all you really have to do is move left and right and jump over obstacles. It's actually a lot like those old Crash Bandicoot levels where you're avoiding the boulder. Another stage requires you to protect a wagon full of stolen food.
When you approach security-laden portions of levels, a little minigame pops up that plays like whack-a-mole. These aren't particularly thrilling areas, but it does serve to break up the formula at the very least. On top of that, there are three unlockable minigames that serve as a decent distraction from the main story. In the game's final stages, however, the story shifts as the animals find that Dwayne has kidnapped Heather, and this leads to a showdown with Dwayne himself in the heart of VermTech headquarters.
This final battle ends with the animals destroying the capping controller, freeing all the brainwashed animals from Dwayne's control. If you have a child that enjoyed the film you may want to consider picking this one up. The characters are cute and the gameplay is very accessible, which are key components in a kid's game. I wouldn't expect it to last them incredibly long because it does get tiring very quickly. Over the Hedge is definitely a better than average children's movie to game endeavor. It at least deserves a rental unless the gamer in question absolutely loved the flick.
Even though the game is quite simple in its design and gameplay, it is well executed, and fun to play. It makes a change from the intense games which dominate the gaming industry of late, and its simplicity is what makes it a winner. One level has you fight the Verminator Van from atop a golf cart driven by Ozzie. Several video games based on the Over the Hedge movie were developed to coincide with the film's release. Games were released for Microsoft's Windows operating systems and Xbox, Nintendo'sGameCube, Game Boy Advance and DS, and Sony's PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable.
